A lot of us got hooked with Duncan Jones when he came out with "Moon" last year. Luckily for us, he's coming out with the sci-fi drama "Source Code" fairly sooner than we anticipated. Word has it that the official release date for the upcoming production is slated for March 11th, 2011. Along with that, the first official image from the production has popped up online. "Source Code" centers on a soldier who wakes up in the body of a commuter who witnesses a train explosion. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Michelle Monaghan and Vera Farmiga. My goodness, with a cast like that and someone like Duncan Jones taking on the picture, I'm filled with excitement.Any who, take a look at the image below and hopefully we'll be getting a trailer soon since the film's due out early next year.Source: Film Source Code

Here's another pack of new images for you. Bridesmaids may sound like a boilerplate matrimonial comedy to bookend the truly awful Bride Wars, but the film is from Kristen Wiig, Paul Feig and Judd Apatow. So barring any continued sense of Apatow fatigue (that is: hopefully the movie is under two and half hours long) this one might be a lot more than the title implies.
After that, we've got a pic of Jennifer Connelly and Ed Harris in What's Wrong With Virginia?, a shot of Megan Fox and Mickey Rourke (above) in Passion Play, and Keanu Reeves and Vera Farmiga in Henry's Crime, co-written by the director of Anvil! The Story of Anvil.
First up is Bridesmaids, courtesy of EW, to which Kristen Wiig said, "It's more a story about friendship than a 'wedding movie,'..."There's this weird pressure in society, and in a lot of these kinds of movies, that says ...

Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I'm here to talk to you about the Casting Tidbits Initiative. First up, THR reports Terrence Howard will portray Nelson Mandela in Winnie, a biopic of the former wife of the first black president of South Africa. Being directed by veteran South African filmmaker Darrell J. Roodt (who also co-wrote the script with Andre Pieterse and Paul L. Johnson) the story's focus ranges from her image as a mother, wife and steadfast supporter of her activist husband, to campaigning for his release from jail and fight against apartheid. Winnie Mandela will be played by Jennifer Hudson in the film as well. Read on!

Two casting stories for two great actresses. First up, Deadline reports that Kirsten Dunst has landed the lead role in Lars von Trier's new film Melancholia. Dunst got the role when Penelope Cruz (first rumored in February) backed out to do Pirates of the Caribbean 4 instead. This is described as a "sci-fi disaster film" about a planet named Melancholia that "looms threateningly close to Earth." It will shoot July to September in Sweden. Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kiefer Sutherland, Alexander & Stellan Skarsgaard, and Udo Kier are also in the cast. I'm quite excited to see a sci-fi film from the very controversial von Trier. More casting below!

Nothing makes me happy in quite the same was as seeing a small, odd western come together with a top-notch cast. I've got new hope for a film called A Thousand Guns, based in part on the fact that Vera Farmiga has just signed on. The film, which is about "a preacher's wife and her journey of revenge," has a few fun-sounding elements, like a demon gun called El Rojo and a band of seemingly ninja-like assassins. And in the middle of it all, Farmiga, as a powerful missionary turned gunslinger.
Variety says that Daniel Calparsoso (Guerreros) is directing from Russell Friedenberg's script. The film is set up at a new company, Prominent Pictures, with Frozen River producer Heather Rae as one of the chief officers.
The trade doesn't offer a lot of info on the film, but the Iron Circle Pictures website has plenty. From there comes this text, for example, ...

Jake Gyllenhaal and Michelle Monaghan filmed Source Code in Chicago yesterday. Jake showed off that charming smile during his visit to SF last week where he also revealed how much fun he had shooting in Canada with costar Vera Farmiga and his excitement over being made into a Lego for Prince of Persia. Jake was covered up by a trenchcoat on set, but at least he'll fulfill our shirtless wishes when we see his bulked up physique on screen at the end of May. He's going strong against Ashton Kutcher in the PopSugar 100, and Jake has another exciting head-to-head coming up - Prince of Persia opens the same weekend as Sex and the City 2, which sounds like a great double feature to us.

Interesting tidbit of news today. Production Weekly reports (via IONCinema) that Oscar nominated actress Vera Farmiga will step behind the camera for her directorial debut on a film called Higher Ground. The project is an adaptation of Carolyn Briggs' memoir This Dark World, which is a look at the nature of faith and a story of one woman's struggle to find her place in the world. Before you shrug this off as another religious film, the story is actually about a young mother who begins to question the "religious dogma" that she has embraced all of her life - another anti-faith film to join with Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master.
Farmiga will start shooting this in upstate New York in June after she finishes Duncan Jones' Source Code. She will also star in the film (not sure what role?) in addition to directing it, however it doesn't sound like she worked ...

Vera Farmiga quickly broke into the big time. Her early credits came in the late '90s, and by 2004 she was working with Jonathan Demme (his Manchurian Candidate remake) and then there was The Departed. Up in the Air landed her an Oscar nomination, and she's continuing to work in movies that aren't quite mainstream: Henry's Crime, Madonna's W.E. (which sounds more intriguing with each nugget of info) and Duncan Jones' Source Code.
Now she'll make her directorial debut with Higher Ground, in which she'll also star.
Production Weekly's twitter feed is the original source of this info. As such, we don't have a lot of other info. The film will be based on This Dark World, a memoir by Carolyn Briggs. The script is by Briggs and Tim Metcalfe, and production is slated to begin in New York state this June.
Here's the book synopsis:

Madonna is lining up some impressive talent for her sophomore directorial effort. W.E. already features Vera Farmiga and Abbie Cornish, and has now added Ewan McGregor. The film features parallel narratives. In one, McGregor will play King Edward VIII, who abdicated the throne in 1936 to marry the American woman Wallis Simpson, played by Farmiga. The other storyline features Cornish as a modern woman obsessed with Simpson, and who is having an affair with a yet to be cast man. Madonna wrote the script for W.E. with Alex Keshishian.
