If there's one thing I hate above all else, it's wasted potential. Unfortunately, Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is just that: wasted potential. The film has a stunning cast, home to the likes of Pierce Brosnan, Sean Bean, Uma Thurman, Catherine Keener, Kevin McKidd, Joe Pantoliano, Rosario Dawson, and Steve Coogan. Of course, the actors above are but the trimmings on a film starring Alexandra Daddario (as Annabeth), Brandon T. Jackson (as Grover), and, as the titular character, Logan Lerman. Las Vegas' big gamble, the massive CityCenter is finally starting to be open to the public. The Vdara Hotel and Spa is partnering with Vanity Fair to co-host a grand opening gala hosted by Sebastian Copeland with Orlando Bloom and Rosario Dawson on Tuesday in support of the Sebastian Copeland Foundation, a new foundation to explore climate change. Entertainment will be provided by DJs Donovan Leitch and Mathieu Schreyer and guests will dine on food from Martin Heierling, executive chef of Vdara and the hotel's contemporary Mediterranean restaurant, Silk Road. Vdara is a non-gaming, smoke-free environment which is physically connected to Bellagio and adjacent to the ARIA resort. The LEED Gold certified project includes the 18,000-square-foot, two-level wellness spa, Vdara Health and Beauty. The hotel features a variety of stay options the most lavish of which are the two-bedroom penthouse suites which each have a full kitchen, a washer and dryer, flatscreen televisions and a bathroom with a soaking tub. The 4,004-room Aria Resort & Casino will open on December 16. Many are concerned about how eager people will be to check out the new hotel considering that room prices are lower across the Strip and tourism is still down. The evening was, in part, sponsored by Lexus. The designer remained back in London. "Have a drink, but not too many," she advised the crowd via a taped recording. "L.A., you drive too much. Take a walk. Ride the bus." In her place, some of the vegan designer's most environmentally friendly champions, including Liv Tyler, Cameron Diaz, and a late-showing Charlize Theron, held down the fort. IESB is reporting that The Weinstein Company has lost the rights to Sin City 2. They don't have any specifics, but they're saying that the sequel will now be financed by a private equity group and that Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios will still produce. As of last December, Frank Miller said that he had finished the script and was readying the movie. Most recently, Rosario Dawson confirmed that the script was done and that it might happen this year. This is easily some of the best news we've heard all week.
